Android App Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get the app?

You can download the app from Google Play here.

If you choose to subscribe from within the app you will be taken to our subscription page to complete the transaction, after which you should return to the app to sign-in.

What versions of Android does the app work on?

Version 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and later.

I’m a LRB print subscriber. How do I read the magazine on my Android device?

Once you’ve downloaded the app, open it and select “Already a subscriber?” at top right. You will then be asked to enter your email and password. These details will be the same as those you use to access the LRB website.

If you’ve forgotten your password you can reset it at here. If you still have problems please contact us at app@lrb.co.uk and we will respond as soon as we can.

How do I subscribe or buy an issue through the app?

To purchase an Android subscription, select “Become a Subscriber!” in the app’s library.

You will then be taken to the LRB website to purchase a print subscription (the Android app is a benefit of having a print subscription). Once purchased you will receive an email notification for setting a username and password to access both the LRB website and the app.

When you have completed the purchase and set your log-in details return to the app. You should see a message thanking you for subscribing and prompting you to sign-in. You can then sign-in using the email and password you created after purchasing the subscription.

If I have a Kindle subscription does this automatically include a subscription to the app, and vice versa?

No. Kindle subscribers are not eligible to receive free access to the app unless they also have a print subscription. It is also the case that purchasing a subscription through the app does not entitle you to access the Kindle edition.

Do I get access to the archive on the LRB website if I subscribe through the app?

Yes. Because the Android app can only be accessed by people with a current print subscription (you will be redirected to buy one when purchasing through the app) you will also be able to access the online archive with the email and password details you set after purchasing.

If you have any other queries that are not covered in this list please contact us via email at app@lrb.co.uk and we will try and answer your question as soon as we can.
