Agatha Christie was home educated, a fact I just acquired inadvertently due to my being dragged up to Totnes Civic Square to meet with a bunch of people pursuing a similar path with their own offspring.

“Well, that’s the debate over the merits finished,” observed my companion.

“Rommel was also home educated,” I added in a loud voice, helping myself to a promotional fairy cake.

“And do you have children?” asked the woman at the centre of this operation.

“Actually, no. I am impotent. Thanks for reminding me.”

    “Oh, I am so sorry.”

“No, I mean it, thanks for reminding me. I hate children.”

    The policeman.
