How can I access subscriber-only content?

If you are a subscriber, you can activate your online account to access the latest issues of the London Review of Books in full, plus the complete archive dating back to 1979. If you subscribed via the website but have not yet received your first issue, you can activate your account with your order number, which can be found in the confirmation email sent to you after you subscribed. If you have subscribed and you are already receiving issues you can activate your account with your customer number.

For USA subscribers: your 16-character customer number is between the ‘#’ marks, above your name on your address slip.

Once you have activated your account we will send you an email link so that you can set up your password. If you have already activated your account then log in to read any article. If you are not a subscriber, subscribe now for immediate online access. The Subscriptions team will be happy to help with any problems you have accessing subscriber-only content.

I have paid for my subscription, how long will it take before I receive my first copy?

The publication schedule provides the estimated delivery date for each issue. Email our Customer Services team or call them on 1 800-258-2066 if an issue doesn’t arrive. All our US/Canada subscriptions are handled by our North American agency, and it may take up to 12 weeks for you to receive your first issue.

How do I renew my subscription?

Please send us your renewal form and payment in the return envelope provided. Alternatively, email our Subscriptions team or call them on: 1 800-258-2066.

How can I check the status of my subscription?

What should I do if the issue is delivered damaged or I do not receive an issue on time?

Contact our Customer Services team by email or call them on 1 800-258-2066 and they will arrange for a replacement copy to be sent to you. Please also refer to our publication schedule for estimated delivery times.

I am going on holiday/moving house and would like to suspend my subscription.

If I cancel or suspend my subscription, am I still able to access subscriber-only content?

No, to access subscriber-only content you need to have an active subscription.


What types of payment and currencies do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Amex credit and debit cards. All payments are taken in US Dollars.

How secure are my credit card details if I subscribe online?

All the information you provide is encrypted (scrambled) using the industry standard SSL (Secure Socket Layer) technology so that when you submit the order from the online form, nothing can be read as it travels down the secure line. Your details are then entered into our secure subscriptions system, which is hosted separately from our website.

Can I use a London Review Bookshop voucher as payment for my subscription?

No, this is a promotional offer valid only at the bookshop.

How do auto-renewing subscriptions work?

Auto-renewing subscriptions are an easy and convenient way to ensure you continue to receive the London Review of Books without interruption. An initial payment is taken at the time of purchase, as detailed in the checkout process. If you have selected an auto-renewing offer, your subscription will then be automatically renewed on a quarterly basis. If you do not select an auto-renewing offer, you will receive renewal reminders towards the end of the subscription term.

How do I cancel an auto-renewing subscription?

You may cancel your auto-renewing subscription at any time. Please email our Customer Services team or call them on: 1-800-258-2066.

Gift Subscriptions

How can I nominate a friend for a free gift subscription?

Please complete the nomination form we will send you, and return it in the envelope provided. You can also nominate a friend online using the link on the nomination form. Alternatively, email our Customer Services team or call them on 1-800-258-2066 with the name and address of your nominee.

Is there a deadline for nominating a friend for a free gift subscription?

No, but as this is a benefit of subscribing, we recommend that you nominate your chosen recipient as soon as possible.

Can I nominate a friend who lives in another country?

Yes, we will send the gift subscription wherever you want it to go, worldwide. Please note that nominations outside of North America may take longer to process.

I nominated a friend for a free gift subscription but they have not yet received an issue.

Once you have nominated a friend for a free gift subscription, we will send them a letter informing them of their free gift. Once we receive their signed acceptance form, or they accept online, we are able to start sending them issues. You may need to encourage your friend to return the signed acceptance form or to accept the gift online. If they require another form or help accepting online please email our Subscriptions team or call them on: 1-800-258-2066.

This is because all our USA/Canada subscriptions are managed by our North American fulfilment agency, and the costs of printing and postal services in the US are hugely competitive.

What is your cancellation/refund policy?
