Alexander Tikhonov, soon gave up engineering for literary journalism and achieved some celebrity in pre-Revolutionary Russia as the editor of Letopis. After the Revolution he was, briefly, the editor of Russkiy Sovremennik, but that folded after its fourth issue. In 1949 his memoir of the years 1898-1905 was published under the title ‘Times and Places’.
