How do I get the app?

You can download the app from the iTunes store here.

Do I have to subscribe in order to purchase individual issues?

No, once you’ve downloaded the app you can purchase app editions of individual issues through your iTunes account. This doesn’t require a subscription.

What do I get when I subscribe to the app?

If you subscribe to the app through iTunes you will get access to all app editions of the LRB published from that date onwards, for as long as you remain subscribed. This does not include a print a subscription.

What if I already have a print subscription?

If you subscribe to the print edition then the app and any issues covered by your print subscription period will be available for free download. Issues outside that period will need to be purchased through the app if you wish to read them. To access issues all you have to do is download the app from the iTunes store and enter your existing login details.

How do I subscribe through the app?

I am not a current subscriber.

Swipe from the front page of the issue to the contents page. From here tap the middle of the LRB logo at the top and then tap index icon in the bottom left. Choose ‘Back Issues’ in the bottom left of the screen and then tap button that says ‘Subscribe to the App Edition’ at the very bottom left. This will give you an app subscription only, and does not include a print subscription. If you would like to subscribe to both the print and app editions together for the same price, then visit www.mylrb.co.uk.

I am a current subscriber.

Swipe from the front page of the issue to the contents page. From here tap the middle of the LRB logo at the top and then tap index icon in the bottom left. Choose ‘More Issues’ in the bottom left of the screen. You should then tap ‘Subscriber Log In’ at the bottom of the screen where you will be prompted to enter your email and password details. Please note that these details must be the same as those you use to access the LRB archive on the website. If you have not already registered your subscription for access you can do so here www.lrb.co.uk/activate.

If I have a Kindle subscription, does this automatically include a subscription to the app?

No. Kindle subscribers are not eligible to receive free access to the app unless they also have a print subscription.

Do I get access to the archive on the LRB website if I subscribe through the app?

No. Subscribing through the app does not entitle you to access the LRB online archive, or receive a print subscription.

When attempting to download an issue I see the error ‘Cannot contact iTunes store’ or ‘Cannot connect to linechef.publisher.29.io’. How do I solve this?

Please first try deleting the app entirely from your device(s), then re-installing from iTunes Newsstand and going through the subscriber log-in process again. This often solves verification errors and some other problems that may be affecting the app. This method is also good to try as a first response to any problem that you may be experiencing. If problems persist please email app@lrb.co.uk.

How do I restore my subscription if I have deleted the app, bought a new device, or want to use the app on another device that is linked to the same iTunes account?

To restore your subscription, navigate to the issues page on the app and tap ‘Already a subscriber’ in the top left. Then tap the ‘restore’ button in the pop-up box and enter your iTunes account details.

How do I remove previously downloaded issues from the app?

To delete a downloaded issue just swipe left over its cover on the issue list screen to reveal the ‘Delete’ button. After pressing this the issue will be removed from your downloads.

Can I change the text size in the app?

Yes, if you tap the screen to bring up the navigation bar at the bottom you will see the symbol ‘Aa’. Tapping this will allow you to change the text size of the articles.

I have forgotten my username/password to access the online archive and app edition.

How do I cancel my subscription?

To manage your app subscription, follow the instructions on Apple support, here. Please note, if you cancel your subscription before the end of your subscription period, you will not receive a refund. This is Apple policy.
