That's certainly one way of putting it. Another, and more accurate, way of putting it would be that he was horrible enough to drug and then orally, vaginally and anally raped a 13-year-old child. And while we're at it, why don't we try a little thought experiment. Imagine if Polanski were a rap star or an NBA player. Would you be cutting him so much slack? Is high brow child rape better than low brow child rape? Call me old fashioned, but a child rapist is a child rapist, whether he's an auteur, a basketball player or the creepy guy next door. But Polanski made Chinatown and Rosemary's Baby, so we're supposed to forgive him. And we're supposed to think that between a 44-year-old man who anally rapes a child and the police officer who'd like him to do time for that crime, the latter is the repulsive one.
